Yampa River

The Yampa Valley is rumored to possess a curse compelling those who visit to return again and again. But, with all the region has to offer, the curse is more like a blessing.

Year round, the Yampa Valley area offers something for everyone. In the summer, Steamboat Lake has a swim beach and a full service marina for boaters and swimmers. Visitors can marvel at Fish Creek Falls, a 283-foot waterfall and historic bridge near Steamboat Springs, before hitting the adjacent hiking and mountain biking trails that lead to the Continental Divide. And ATV and four-wheel drive enthusiasts can check out the countless trails near Columbine and Steamboat Springs.

Even more hiking, biking and fishing spots can be found throughout the valley in Medicine Bow - Routt National Forest near Hayden, the Mount Zirkel Wilderness Area near Steamboat Springs as well as Steamboat Lake State Park near Clark. And, for those looking for convenience, the Yampa River Trail System runs adjacent to downtown Steamboat Springs.

When the temperature drops, the area's waters are perfect for ice fishing. Snowmobile trails in Clarkand east of Steamboat Springs are ideal for thrill-seekers, and nearby Steamboat Springs offers a world-class ski resort for downhill skiing and snowboarding.

And for a break from activity anytime of year, travelers can stop by Hahn's Peak for a self-guided tour. Once a booming mining camp in the 1860s, the quiet historic district is perfect for those wanting to travel back in time. Or stop by Clark's old-fashioned Main Street General Store for souvenirs and snacks. When all else fails, take a relaxing soak in Steamboat Springs' famous hot springs. With so much to do, visitors to the Yampa Valley would be crazy not to return.
